Two years after gaining city status, Alatau City continues to evolve as Kazakhstan’s emerging digital urban center. Established in January 2024 on the basis of the former Zhetygen settlement, Alatau City was granted special status by presidential decree in September 2025, with the goal of becoming the region’s first fully digitalized city. According to the city akimat, the population has grown from 52,086 at the time of formation to 54,747 by December 2025, with a balanced demographic structure that includes a strong working‑age population and a significant share of children and youth.

During this period, Alatau City has focused on developing its social infrastructure and attracting private investment. New facilities include schools under the “Keleshek” brand, feldsher‑midwife centers, and planned cultural and sports facilities across several microdistricts. Investment activity has increased nearly threefold year‑on‑year: in 2025, capital investment reached 120 billion tenge, around 80 percent of which came from private sources. Currently, 17 major investment projects worth about 500 billion tenge are being implemented, including the expansion of an industrial park and the construction of a large transport and logistics hub.

Infrastructure development is progressing alongside long‑term urban planning. In existing residential areas, electricity, water supply, sewerage and road networks have been upgraded, while engineering infrastructure for new districts is at the design stage under an approved roadmap. According to the city’s master plan, Alatau City will be developed through four functional districts: Gate District as a financial and business hub, Golden District as a center for education and advanced medicine, Growing District as a science‑industrial and logistics cluster, and Green District as a tourism and recreation zone. Together, these projects are intended to shape Alatau City into a modern, sustainable and investment‑driven city of the future.
