Kazakhstan has officially invited South Korean construction companies to participate in its Alatau Smart City development project, recognizing their advanced technology and extensive experience. At the “Alatau RISE With Kazakhstan” investment roadshow held on October 15 at Seoul’s Lotte Hotel, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozumbayev Kanat specifically named Samsung C&T, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Daewoo E&C as desired partners for the early stages of the project.

The Alatau Smart City aims to become the “Singapore of Central Asia,” covering 880 km² north of Almaty, and will include specialized zones for technology, finance, logistics, and tourism. Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozumbayev Kanat emphasized that Korean firms’ technical capabilities and proven track records make them ideal contributors to the project.

Samsung C&T has engaged in smart city collaborations in Indonesia and India, including MOUs with Sinar Mas Land and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Hyundai E&C is developing an eco-friendly smart city in Ha Nam Province, Vietnam, and may participate in Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara. Daewoo E&C successfully executed Vietnam’s Hanoi Starlake City project, incorporating data-driven smart city operations and AMI infrastructure.

The invitation highlights Kazakhstan’s interest in leveraging Korea’s expertise for the ambitious Alatau Smart City development.
