Kazakhstan has chosen South Korea as the first destination for its global investment campaign promoting Alatau City, an ultra-large future smart city project near Almaty. The two-day roadshow, “Alatau Rise With Kazakhstan,” held at Seoul’s Lotte Hotel on October 15–16, aimed to attract Korean and global investors to participate in next-generation industries such as future mobility, hydrogen, and the circular economy.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozumbayev Kanat, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurbek Sayasat, and other senior officials presented Alatau City as a “sandbox and testbed” for cutting-edge technologies, including robotics and unmanned aerial systems. Vice Minister Dmitriy Mun of the Ministry of AI and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan highlighted Korea’s world-class expertise in smart city infrastructure and advanced industries as key reasons for selecting Seoul as the project’s first roadshow destination.

Chairman of Caspian Group, Tskhay Yuriy, emphasized the historical bond and trust between the two nations, noting Kazakhstan’s vibrant Korean diaspora of over 100,000 people. Consultants, including Park Moon-gu, Partner of KPMG Korea, said the project draws on Singapore’s urban planning, China’s industrial park models, and Korea’s advanced industry roadmap to create a unique, self-sustaining smart city that opens new opportunities for Korean companies.
