Kazakhstan and South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the development of Alatau Smart City, one of Kazakhstan’s key strategic urban innovation projects.

On Thursday, December 11, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozumbayev Kanat held a meeting in Astana with Kim Bok Hwan, President and CEO of the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation(KIND). According to the Government’s press service, the meeting followed earlier negotiations held in October in Seoul during the “Alatau Rise with Kazakhstan” roadshow, where the Kazakhstan Government delegation presented the Alatau Smart City concept to Korean partners.

“Many Korean companies have expressed strong support for our Alatau Smart City project, and we truly appreciate it. KIND could participate in major infrastructure development, including energy, water supply, waste water treatment, sewage systems and solid‑waste processing—either through EPC contracts or development models,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozumbayev Kanat stated.

The parties also discussed potential cooperation on logistics and port infrastructure projects. The Deputy Prime Minister invited KIND to open an official office in Kazakhstan to expand long‑term partnership.

Following the talks, the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, the Alatau City Authority State Fund, and KIND signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the development of Alatau Smart City.
