The international roadshow for Kazakhstan’s mega smart city project, Alatau City, concluded successfully in Seoul, drawing strong interest from both the Korean government and leading corporations.
According to the Kazakhstan Investment Agency, more than 400 officials and business representatives from Kazakhstan and Korea attended the “ALATAU RISE With Kazakhstan” event held at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul on October 15–16.
During the forum, the two countries signed MOUs covering smart city development, the hydrogen economy, and urban air mobility (UAM). The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) agreed to cooperate on UAM ecosystem development, while the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) pledged joint efforts in green energy. Akimat of Almaty Region also signed an infrastructure partnership with Korea’s RETD.
Alatau City, a 880 km² smart metropolis north of Almaty, is being developed as a special economic zone integrating industry, finance, tourism, and education, with an initial investment of ₩25 trillion.
