Kazakhstan plans to accelerate the construction of Alatau City in close cooperation with Chinese companies, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced at the Kazakh-Chinese Business Council meeting in Beijing. He praised China’s global achievements in digitalization and highlighted AI as a key area for joint work.

President Tokayev underlined that Alatau City will serve as a national and regional hub for innovation, crypto industry, and tech entrepreneurship. He voiced full support for the agreement signed with China State Construction Engineering Corporation and called for construction to begin without delay.

The project builds on Kazakhstan’s recent digital advances, including the launch of its first regional supercomputer and the AlemAI International AI Center. Approved in May 2024 with Singapore’s Surbana Jurong, the master plan envisions a city covering 88,000 hectares and integrating 12 settlements with a population of about 54,000. A government Project Office will oversee investment, infrastructure, and development.
