According to Forbes Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan today holds a leading position in Central Asia by FDI inflow. In 2024 alone, the country secured $15.7 billion in investments— nearly 70% of the total investment volume across the entire region. This result once again confirms Kazakhstan’s status as a stable and attractive platform for international business.

Over the past years, the main investors in Kazakhstan have consistently been the Netherlands, the United States, and Russia. Looking at the five-year trend, the Netherlands remains the top investor with $30.3 billion, followed by Russia with $11.7 billion and the United States with $10.3 billion. The top ten also includes Switzerland, Belgium, South Korea, China, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. China ranks 7th, investing actively in uranium production, oil and gas fields, as well as transport and energy infrastructure.

While the extractive industries still account for the largest share of foreign direct investment (FDI), the structure of inflows is gradually shifting. Increasing amounts are being directed into manufacturing, finance, telecommunications, and retail. Promising growth areas also include digitalization, transport corridors, and green energy.

In 2024,the city of Almaty became the main recipient of foreign investment, attracting $5.8 billion thanks to its role as a financial and business hub. Western regions such as Atyrau, Mangystau, and West Kazakhstan continue to dominate in oil and gas projects.

Foreign investments have contributed to modernizing infrastructure, strengthening the industrial sector, and developing financial institutions. Investments in education, healthcare, and job creation are also increasing, supporting sustainable economic development. At the same time, Kazakhstan continues to work on improving the investment climate and diversifying the economy to reduce dependence on extractive sectors.
